Known by many as Oakland's unofficial hub, the Grand Lake neighborhood seems to bring everyone together. Located at the northern tip of Lake Merritt (the largest urban lake in the United States), the Grand Lake neighborhood is a vibrant mix of cultures and cuisines, bustling businesses and tree-line residential streets, highways and parks. The diversity of Grand Lake is just one of the many reasons people love to call Grand Lake home.

Architectural styles range from restored Craftsman to Mediterranean to cottages and stately apartment buildings, many with views of Lake Merritt. Two retail districts, one on Grand Lake Avenue and the other on Lakestore Avenue, offer residents numerous options for dining and shopping or just enjoying a coffee at one of the many sidewalk cafes. The Grand Lake Theater, a glorious Palace-style movie house, is a favorite among residents as is Rod Dibble, Grand Lake’s own piano man, who plays six nights a week at The Alley. Residents also enjoy strolling, jogging and biking on the paths that surround the lake.
