If there is one neighborhood that best personifies the diversity of architecture in Alameda; it is Central Alameda. Situated in the heart of the island, Central Alameda boasts an impressive array of architectural styles: Colonial Revival, Queen Anne Cottages, Victorians (some dating as far back as the 1850s) and Craftsman bungalows. In addition to this, Central Alameda is a mixed zone neighborhood, combining wide tree-lined residential streets, parks, lagoons and schools with small corner storefronts and businesses. Want a neighborhood where your children can bike and you can take a short walk to the local coffee shop? Then Central Alameda may be the neighborhood for you. Parks abound in this area with Franklin Park to the south near Grand Ave, Littlejohn Park to the north along Buena Vista Ave and Washington Park to the West on Central. Bordered on each end by the larger shopping districts of Webster Avenue and Park Street, Central Alameda preserves an old-style neighborhood feel while allowing plenty of retail options.
