The city of Piedmont is a small residential community of approximately 11,000 residents in the East Bay hills which is completely surrounded by the city of Oakland. Known for its large, stately homes, tree-lined streets and excellent schools, Piedmont enjoys a low crime rate and good weather, so it ranks high in desirability throughout the Bay Area and its property values reflect that.

Although Piedmont itself has minimal commerce, the adjacent Oakland neighborhoods of Montclair, Rockridge, Grand Lake and Piedmont Avenue provide abundant dining and shopping options. Residents keep up with local news in the Piedmont Post and the Piedmonter. Piedmont residents tend to be active in school and city government and local voters frequently approve bond measures and parcel taxes to support local public schools.

During the early 1900’s, Piedmont had a reputation as the "City of Millionaires" because of the ratio of millionaires to total residents. Jack London and Clint Eastwood both once called Piedmont home.
