This small village sits almost entirely in the hills surrounded by El Cerrito and Berkeley. Kensington offers a quiet retreat from city life. Housing choices here include Tudor, Mediterranean, and contemporary styles, as well as mid-sized bungalows from the 1930’s and 40’s, many graced with colorful gardens and fabulous views. Kensington boasts a Maybeck-designed home on Purdue Street.

The town center of Kensington stretches along The Arlington and offers restaurants, grocery stores and other amenities including a Sunday Farmers’ Market. Colusa Circle also offers a quaint shopping district with Kensington Circus Pub and Semifreddi's Bakery. Commuters have two nearby BART stations in El Cerrito and North Berkeley.

Bordered on the east by Tilden Park, residents are close to the park’s pony rides, merry-go-round, steam trains and other recreational amenities. The 10-acre Blake Gardens, used as a teaching facility for the University of California’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning (and also containing Blake House, the official residence of the school’s President), are open to the public for self-guided tours.
