This tiny community of just 1.2 square miles has evolved from its origins as a heavy industrial center to a thriving retail, entertainment and business center. The diverse population of Emeryville can select from diverse housing choices including high-rise and low-rise condominiums, many with views of the Bay, modern townhouse complexes, live-work lofts and small bungalows on tree-lined streets. Restored brick warehouses and factories attract a vibrant arts community, with plentiful galleries and live/work collectives.

Emeryville sits at the east end of the Bay Bridge and at the confluence of several major freeways so freeway access is easy, but public transportation options abound here as well. Emeryville has its own Amtrak station and is two miles from the MacArthur BART station. The Emery-Go-Round, a free shuttle run by the city, connects Amtrak to BART and local residents to shopping, businesses and schools.

The Emeryville Public Market offers an expansive food court with dining choices from around the world, a bookstore, pub and movie theater. The recently developed Bay Street combines retail shops, entertainment and residential uses in a simulated small town street.
